My Studios
These studios are from my last home. I just moved into my new home and my studio is truly only for the brave. I can’t even figure out how to do everything! Stay tuned!
I learned to paint my first flower petals (2007) in a small bedroom in the East Village. A small white watercolor palette and two cups of water sat on a table shaped like a red flower. It took me one whole weekend to paint a petal that looked like a petal.
I taught writing then at New York University and Marymount Manhattan College. The more I learned to paint the more I thought about the differences in painting and writing. I started to write a blog about teaching.
One weekend I painted a flower in watercolor on Yupo paper. I then painted another in a vase. I loved that little painting.
In 2009 that flower painting won an honorable mention at the Arts Council in Southern Pines, NC; and a month later I sold a painting in Pinehurst. This gave me hope that maybe I could do more. I never liked business cards without a title. On my new business cards I put Artist.
